3. Chicago Bears’ running back room

On Thursday, September 3, Chicago Bears running back D’Andre Swift sustained an injury at practice and was said to be in significant discomfort. There is, however, some good news stemming from this incident: it was simply heat-related cramping. As such, the veteran running back feels, at worst, like a game-time decision for the Bears heading into Week 1, although Swift should be a go for the first game of the season.

Alternatively, the second-year running back, Kyle Monangai, is said to be running well after sustaining a knee injury earlier this offseason. While it is unknown if Monangai will play this upcoming week or not, Swift dealing with cramps would imply that he will be active on Sunday, even if only in a limited capacity. However, if either running back misses the first week, or beyond, look for Roschon Johnson to have an increased role for the Bears early on in the 2026 season.

2. Jordyn Tyson

The New Orleans Saints are expected to be without its top pick at wide receiver in the previous draft, Jordyn Tyson, for a couple of months. As a result, the second starting job at the position is a wide-open battle in New Orleans. It could alternate between players, go to a veteran like Devaughn Vele or go to one of the other rookies (Barion Brown or Bryce Lance) that the team drafted; but one thing is for sure: it does not seem like the plan is set in stone quite yet for the Saints heading into Week 1.

1. Jayden Higgins

Season-ending injuries are an unfortunate outcome sometimes. That is what happened with the Houston Texans’ presumed second option at wide receiver, Jayden Higgins, earlier this offseason when he tore his ACL. As such, the team is in search of its new second option at the position.

Houston traded for Kayshon Boutte, and he feels firmly in the midst of the conversation to begin the season as a starter. However, fellow Texans sophomore Jaylin Noel was said to have a hold of the third wide receiver job in the offense. The job could alternate between the two receivers, or, perhaps, Tank Dell comes off injured reserve and makes a claim for that job if he can impress upon his return.
