10. Minnesota Vikings (2-0)
Well, that certainly was a game that happened. All of a sudden, the Minnesota Vikings are atop the NFC North standings after a nice win over the Bears, who saw Williams go down with a hamstring injury. The Vikings are a flawed team, but winning is winning.
And what is really awesome about what the Vikings have done thus far is that they've earned two wins against divisional opponents, which is honestly the best possible way you could start a season.
I am not sure the Vikings have quite enough to stand atop the NFC North when it's all said and done, but for now, this is one of the better teams in the NFL. With the QB position having a lower ceiling, though, the entire team's ceiling will be limited.
Despite the QB dysfunction that has followed this team for much of the Kevin O'Connell era, they still figure out how to win football games. Minnesota comes in at No. 10 in our power rankings.
9. Detroit Lions (1-1)
Is it time to panic for the Detroit Lions? Two atrocious defensive performances have the Lions barely 1-1, as the Saints had decided to go for a two-point conversion in overtime in Week 1. Had the Saints been successful there, we’d be talking about the Lions being 0-2.
Detroit has some major questions to answer on defense, but getting Brian Branch and Kerby Joseph back will and is going to be huge. Even when those two are healthy, I am not sure this defense has enough solid talent at cornerback and along the defensive line to emerge as a playoff-caliber unit.
We could be approaching a scenario where the Lions are forced to make some sort of major move on this side of the ball, whether coaching or personnel-wise. Detroit tumbles in our rankings.
