6. Denver Broncos (1-1)
The Denver Broncos got back on the right track in Week 2, taking down Jacksonville thanks to two fourth quarter touchdowns and more late-game heroics from Bo Nix, who can’t seem to help himself. After a sloppy first half, which included an ugly Nix interception, Nix and the Broncos simply rose to the occasion in the fourth quarter.
We saw that time and time again during the 2025 NFL Season, and if that continues to become a part of the Broncos DNA, I guess that is something the team is going to have to live with.
The defense is among the best in the NFL and really contained Lawrence and the Jaguars offense in the second half, and, perhaps most importantly, this also gives the Broncos the head-to-head tiebreaker over Jacksonville if that ends up needing to come into play when playoff seeding takes shape later in the season.
5. San Francisco 49ers (2-0)
A pretty ho-hum victory for San Francisco in Week 2 keeps their record clean and keeps them near the top of our power rankings. The 49ers took down the Dolphins in blowout fashion, and that was as expected.
The 49ers still feel like the third-best team in the NFC West, though, especially when Darnold gets healthy and returns for Seattle. Not only does this team struggle to stay healthy, but QB Brock Purdy also isn’t a super special player.
He’s a fun player who can move around and create with his legs, but he’s not in that upper tier of QBs that we deem to be the best in the league and the ones that can lead their team to the Super Bowl.
But if the 49ers keep winning games, we’ll have to keep giving them credit and ranking them high. No. 5 is where they stand following Week 2.
