10. Green Bay Packers
To say the first month of the season hasn’t gone the way the Green Bay Packers would have hoped would be an understatement.
The Packers’ offensive line has been atrocious. The running game without Josh Jacobs has been completely non-existent. The defense is very obviously missing Micah Parsons.
Even with all of that in mind, the Packers are 2-2 heading into their pivotal Week 5 matchup against the Chicago Bears, and the tide started to turn in the right direction for them against the Buccaneers in Week 4.
The protection held up for Jordan Love better than any other game this season. The defense (and pass rush) came alive a bit more. All it will take is a win against the Bears (even if Tyson Bagent is starting) to get the optimism really flowing for the Packers’ fan base again. They could get Parsons back in the near future, and while there are plenty of hypotheticals hanging in the balance, we might be witnessing the Packers’ rock-bottom this season before they go on a run.
9. Detroit Lions
If you score 31 or more points in every game of the season, at the NFL level, you should probably be undefeated. Yet the Detroit Lions are 2-2.
The defense in Detroit is truly that pathetic, and we saw our latest example of their ineptitude on Sunday night against Bryce Young and the Carolina Panthers.
I just can’t, in good faith, put the Lions any higher than this right now. The defense has been so horrific this season that they are wiping out an incredible start from quarterback Jared Goff. And then Goff has to take his share of the blame after games for not stepping up in the exact moment and window of time that the defense gives him a chance.
Goff’s margin for error right now is non-existent. The Lions don’t have a championship-caliber defense. Will Brian Branch be able to turn it all around?
