6. Minnesota Vikings
I’m going to have to go on record right now and just say that I’m not really buying what the Minnesota Vikings are selling. That might be a harsh stance to take for a team that is currently 4-0, and deservedly so, but it’s where I’m at.
There is definitely an element of passing the “eye test” when it comes to these weekly power rankings. While the Vikings are passing the old eye test defensively, the offense is barely skating by. And yes, to this point, they’ve proven they can still win games.
But when is the clock going to strike midnight here? You can only sustain this level of offensive ineptitude for so long. One of two things will end up happening. Either the Vikings will pick up the pace on offense, or it’s going to start costing them games.
For now, they deserve respect for their record, but I’m not crowning them or even buying them as legitimate contenders in the NFC for the time being.
5. Dallas Cowboys
It might not make complete sense right now, but you’ll just have to wait as the season goes along to see the vision here.
Yes, I have the 2-2 Dallas Cowboys ahead of the 4-0 Minnesota Vikings.
The Cowboys lost back in Week 1 to the Jaxson Dart-led New York Giants, the first game of their new-look defense under Christian Parker. They also lost in heartbreaking fashion against Lamar Jackson and the Ravens on a neutral site.
Those are hardly “bad” losses, all things considered.
Dallas’s win over the Texans in Week 4 was really indicative of how good this team can be. Dak Prescott is playing as well as any quarterback in the league, and if you can go into Houston and pull off a win (even with the Texans reeling), I’m impressed. That defense is no slouch.
