22. Philadelphia Eagles
Last week: 22nd
The Philadelphia Eagles are absolutely reeling right now. The Eagles started this season 2-0 with wins against the Commanders and Titans, but they’ve now dropped three games in a row in…impressive fashion.
The Eagles got absolutely smacked around on Monday Night Football by Case Keenum and the Chicago Bears in Week 3. They followed that up by blowing a lead against the Los Angeles Rams at home in Week 4.
And in Week 5, they tortured the fan base further by blowing it against the Jacksonville Jaguars in London.
Somehow, the Eagles have managed to lose games in which they had a greater-than-97 percent chance to win late in the game.
At some point, we’re going to see Nick Sirianni seriously come under some fire. Meanwhile, the NFC East remains very wide open after just five weeks.
21. New York Giants
Last week: 18th
The Giants made a furious comeback in the 4th quarter against the Washington Commanders, and even though they couldn’t secure a win, they managed to keep themselves out of the loss column.
That game between the Giants and Commanders was really something else, coming down to a complete mismanagement of an end-of-game situation by Washington. And for the second consecutive week, did the Giants sort of get bailed out by the incompetence of their opponent?
At least last week, you can credit the Giants for making a play on the ball and taking a Jacoby Brissett pass back for a touchdown. But in this game? They really just snatched a tie from the jaws of defeat.
That’s not a saying, but we can say whatever we want here.
As of right now, this Giants team is playing solid enough to at least consider the possibility that they could end up being the best team in the NFC East at season’s end, but that division looked rough in Week 5.
