20. Dallas Cowboys

Last week: 19th

After a really fun and impressive win against the Houston Texans – on the road – in Week 4, it was incredibly disappointing to see the Dallas Cowboys lay such an egg on Thursday against the Buccaneers.

At some point, the Cowboys’ defense can’t be a “get-right” game for every team they go up against. With all that they have invested in that side of the ball in trades and contracts, defensive coordinator Christian Parker has to go out there and win a chess match against a team using a rookie free agent at the quarterback position.

Not to diminish Jalon Daniels too much, but with the Dallas offense playing at home, this was a game the Cowboys absolutely should have won.

And not only do they have the defense to thank for the rough performance on Thursday night, but how about tight end Jake Ferguson? Ferguson’s inability to properly catch the call burned the Cowboys badly.

19. Atlanta Falcons

Last week: 17th

After that two-game winning streak where they scored 80 points, I was wanting so badly to buy into the Atlanta Falcons hype.

And then Tua Tagovailoa got into the game against the Ravens for one drive in overtime…

The Falcons haven’t had Michael Penix Jr. consistently available to them, and that has been inarguably his biggest issue up to this point. And to lose him in the midst of their back-and-forth battle against the Ravens proved to be detrimental.

Even at 2-3 to start this season, I’m still pretty confident in the Falcons’ offense, provided Penix is going to be okay. And at this point, we have no idea. He took a brutal hit late in the game and fumbled the ball, and we didn’t see him back out there.

We know how explosive this Falcons team can be offensively. They’re going to need to be as explosive as ever with the Bears and 49ers coming to town in back-to-back weeks. We’re about to find out once and for all what the Falcons are made of.
