13. Indianapolis Colts

After losing to the Titans in Week 6, the Colts got the process of rebuilding started by firing GM Chris Ballard. And sadly, that was the right call to make.

The expectation for the Colts this season (from ownership) was to win games, and that’s not happening. Firing the GM this far ahead of the trade deadline sends a pretty clear signal that more moves are coming.

The question is, “Who is realistically on the table?” Are the Cotls going to have an “everything must go” kind of fire sale, or will they be selective for now and let the next GM decide?

Even though ownership still wants to win, the reality is that they can’t make any decisions with short-term thinking anymore. We’ve almost reached “two eyes on the future” status with the Colts.

12. New York Jets

Don’t look now, but the Jets are 2-4 this season with a home game against the Dolphins in Week 7. I’m not guaranteeing a win for the Jets (yet), but they are 4.5-point favorites at home, and could be 3-4 before you know it.

I’m just sayin’...

There is quite a bit to like about this Jets team, both now and into the future. They have cured Geno Smith of his problem throwing interceptions we saw throughout last season in Las Vegas. He just threw his first interception of the season, and has mostly been playing smart with the football.

This team has weapons, they have tons of picks for the future, and they have a star in the making on the defensive front in David Bailey. Let’s see how this weekend goes, but I’m keeping my eye on the Jets.

11. Houston Texans

The Houston Texans started the season 0-4, but just like that, they are back to 2-4 after beating the Jacksonville Jaguars in London.

As impressive as that win was, the Texans have dug themselves a nearly impossible hole to climb out of. There is only one team in history to start the year 0-4 and make the playoffs, and it hasn’t happened since 1992 (San Diego Chargers).

The Texans have an extra game to climb back in compared to those Chargers, but it’s still not going to be an easy mountain to climb. They are well on their way, however.

Their next game will be at home on Sunday against the JJ McCarthy-led New York Giants. As much respect as you have for the 3-1-1 Giants at this point, and for the way McCarthy played in the 4th quarter of their close loss to the Saints, the Texans are justifiable 10-point home favorites this weekend.
