2. San Francisco 49ers, 6-1
The San Francisco 49ers come in at No. 2 in our updated NFC rankings with Week 8 about here. The 49ers lost in Week 7 to Atlanta, but that does not erase just how good they have been this year. As it seems to be every year, the 49ers are dealing with injuries, and given how often that is the case, you naturally wonder if there is something that the Kyle Shanahan era does or does not do that leads to these injuries.
Well, for what it's worth, the 49ers have gotten MVP-caliber play from Brock Purdy this season, and the defense is also quite good. Already leading the NFC West by multiple games, the 49ers don't have to do anything fancy to win the West this year.
They're one of the more well-coached teams in all of sports and have a lot of the boxes checked in terms of being a contender, and this becomes even more true if the roster health is able to improve as the season goes on.
1. Minnesota Vikings, 6-0
The Minnesota Vikings are the only unbeaten team in the NFL right now and top our NFC power rankings. Thanks to one of the best defenses we have seen in quite some time in the NFL, the Vikings have been able to cover up for some of the ugly offense we have seen thus far.
However, to take an optimistic look here; the team, doesn't have a single loss right now with the offense largely playing poorly, so that should tell us how much better they can be if the offense can at least get to a league average mark.
And while Kyler Murray isn't a spectacular QB, he's perfectly capable of commanding an average offense. You definitely don't want to count your chickens before they hatch, but all that is likely getting in the way of this team making a deep playoff run this year is the offense improving just a bit.
