12. Cleveland Browns
Last week: 14th
Once again, the combination of Deshaun Watson’s late-game heroics and the kicking of Andre Szmyt will not be denied.
The Cleveland Browns struggled all the way to the end with the Tennessee Titans, but the bottom line is the result of the game: The Browns won.
It doesn’t really matter how they did it, especially because the Browns have proven now on multiple occasions to be situationally very solid under first-year head coach Todd Monken. Monken, by the way, is doing an incredible job.
The most impressive part of what the Browns are doing is the way they are winning with the young players on the team contributing so significantly at different times. This week was a KC Concepcion and Quinshon Judkins game, along with Harold Fannin Jr.
They overcame a 14-0 lead and had some impressive response drives on the road to get to 5-2 on the season.
11. Seattle Seahawks
Last week: 16th
The Seattle Seahawks’ defense is a problem.
We already knew this, but we saw them continue the dominance they showed in the second half against the Broncos last week for four quarters against Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs.
There were always going to be two possible outcomes in Week 7: Either Kenneth Walker was going to show the Seahawks what they have been missing, or the Seahawks were going to show Walker what he left behind.
The Seattle defense absolutely shut down Walker and the Chiefs’ offense, holding them to 3 points in front of a national audience and reminding everyone how they won a championship last year.
With Zach Charbonnet getting close to returning, the Seahawks’ running game will get a jolt soon enough. They need it (badly), but the defense is fully capable of getting this team back to the top of the NFC West.
