6. Chicago Bears

Last week: 7th

Especially with Caleb Williams running point, the Chicago Bears are for real.

Their win on Thursday Night Football against the New England Patriots is the latest proof that this is going to be one of the most difficult teams to beat in the NFL this season, and not just because of Williams.

The Bears have a number of offense creators, but it all starts with Ben Johnson understanding how to get everyone involved and how to call a game. He is truly one of the biggest difference makers in the coaching department across the NFL, maybe the biggest on the offensive side.

And Williams is running things as well as any quarterback, even if his sample is more limited than others this season.

The Bears are almost a mortal lock for at least 30 points when they go out there with Williams under center. Everything flows well; they have balance, and he can make ridiculous plays look easy.

5. Denver Broncos

Last week: 5th

The Denver Broncos have been winning some gritty games through the first six weeks of the season, but they finally got a “big” win against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 7.

And I say “big” because it was one of the first two-score wins this team has had in the last calendar year. The Broncos have become the kings of the one-score wins in the NFL, and they have simply made a habit of winning, in general. Dating back to last season, they have won 18 of their last 21 games.

The most important part of this win for the Broncos was the offense and quarterback Bo Nix taking some steps in the right direction. I don’t know if it’s accurate to say they got back “on track”, but there were definitely some big strides in the right direction.

Nix had a huge 62-yard touchdown run, some really nice throws downfield, and the Broncos’ running game came to life with rookie Jonah Coleman coming back into the fold.
