6. Drew Allar

Remember back in the spring when reports surfaced about the Pittsburgh Steelers having to teach Drew Allar different techniques as a quarterback? Allar must be a quick learner because he looked incredible in the first week of the preseason. Although the Steelers are rolling into the season with veteran Aaron Rodgers, he is said to be entering his final year in the NFL.

Allar, with his performance on Thursday, put himself in an amazing position to be the starting quarterback in Pittsburgh at this time next year. Granted, things change in the NFL quickly, but there is no denying how good the rookie quarterback looked and, at the minimum, played himself into a competition for the backup job this year with veteran backup Mason Rudolph and Will Howard, who was a rookie last season.

7. Germie Bernard

Allar was hardly the only player that the Pittsburgh Steelers had on full display on Thursday night. Germie Bernard also put out a memorable first performance on the NFL level. Some may look at the stat line of four receptions for 51 yards and think that the rookie wide receiver had a good performance.

However, it is not just the stats for Bernard that stand out. He made the best out of every play that went his direction, breaking multiple tackles and rattling off yards after contact in the process. The bottom line is that the rookie made the mundane turn into something great.

For a Pittsburgh squad that is hunting for a third wide receiver to play along with Michael Pittman Jr and DK Metcalf, the hunt may be over. Bernard should be in the competition with other receivers such as Payton Wilson. While there is still a lot of preseason and practice to go, the rookie wideout definitely played himself into that conversation, if nothing else.
