30. Malik Willis, Miami Dolphins
The Miami Dolphins lost by 14 points to Las Vegas in the season opener, which isn’t ideal. Malik Willis tossed 220 yards and an interception in the loss, but he was able to add 39 rushing yards and one touchdown.
The Dolphins just aren’t going to be a good team this year and will struggle to find one win. It’s a tough reality, but at the same time, the Dolphins are clearly embracing a full-scale rebuild this year and beyond.
Willis may be nothing more than a stopgap option for a year or two. He’s clearly someone who has filled in nicely as a backup, but beyond that, there isn’t much of anything with the veteran. He does have some slick off-schedule ability, but no serious team needs to be starting Willis.
The Dolphins will have to endure all the losing this year, but there could be some light at the end of the tunnel. Willis should find himself ranked rather low this year.
29. Drew Lock, Seattle Seahawks
Drew Lock leading the Seattle Seahawks to victory in Week 1 was certainly something we all had on our Bingo cards, right? Sam Darnold went down after just a handful of plays and could miss a couple of games, so in the meantime, Lock is going to start for this team.
Nothing more than a quality backup, Lock does have some very enticing arm strength that gives him the confidence to test all parts of the field, and he did show that off a bit against New England.
With that said, no team is going to sustain any sort of winning with Lock under center, but he is the prototypical backup QB you can trust for a 2-3 game stretch to simply not sink the ship. He’s also quite the personality and someone I believe his teammates gravitate toward. Seattle getting out of Week 1 with a win is huge, and Lock was a huge part in that, but we’re also not going to get ahead of ourselves and rank him super high - that just wouldn’t really make sense.
