28. Cam Ward, Tennessee Titans
There just wasn’t a ton of juice from Cam Ward and the Tennessee Titans in Week 1. They hosted the New York Jets at home and lost by 13 points, and that feels rather inexcusable. The Titans and Ward could take some time to really get moving, though, as this is a new regime, as Brian Daboll was hired as the offensive coordinator, and Robert Saleh was brought in as the head coach.
All in all, the Titans still might be one of the worst teams in the sport this year, but if Ward can begin to slowly put things together throughout the season, there could be some excitement for 2027. If nothing else, Ward didn’t throw an interception, and while that may seem like a nothingburger right now, it’s also not nothing.
Tennessee isn’t going to make the playoffs or anything like that this year, but the biggest thing for this team will be if Ward begins to show signs of legitimate development. If so, the Titans go make an all-in push following the 2026 campaign.
27. Geno Smith, New York Jets
Geno Smith and the Jets went into Tennessee and got the victory, which is huge. While the Jets are going to win many games this year, it’s always nice to win no matter what. Smith didn’t do anything of note, as he went 19/24 for 215 yards. He took care of the football and did enough for his team to win.
With that being said, Smith is who he is at this point - he’s on his third team in as many seasons for a reason and isn’t the Jets’ long-term answer at the position. With the Jets having a trio of first-round picks in the 2027 NFL Draft, they figure to at least try to come away with a first-round passer.
The Jets do have enough talent on offense for Smith to have a bit of a bounce back year. He’s thrown 32 interceptions over the past two seasons, which is simply not a sustainable number. Unless Smith has a solid season this year, it could be his last as a starter in the NFL.
