20. Jacoby Brissett, Arizona Cardinals
Jacoby Brissett and the Arizona Cardinals earned a massive win in Week 1, taking down the Los Angeles Chargers. Brissett had 27 completions for 277 yards and one touchdown in the win. He hit Trey McBride for nine receptions, 95 yards, and a touchdown.
The Cardinals were simply the better team on Sunday afternoon, and while they probably won’t win many more games this year, it was probably nice to get one, as tough as they’ll likely be. It’s also the debut win for Mike LaFleur as the Cardinals’ head coach.
One area where the Cardinals do excel is with the group of playmakers they have on offense. It’s definitely one of the better groups in the NFL, but there isn’t a ton outside of that to fall in love with.
And while Brissett played his tail off here, he’s really nothing more than a high-end backup, so it’s not smart to make this win something it’s not.
19. Jayden Daniels, Washington Commanders
If nothing else, the Washington Commanders made it interesting. They fell to the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 1, and it really wasn’t a pretty outing overall. Jayden Daniels was just 18/34 for 164 yards. He did have two touchdowns, but the Commanders do have some major issues on both sides of the ball.
And I am not sure it’s a stretch to worry about Daniels this year, especially behind this offensive line. It’s a rough line, and as we saw last year, Daniels is a bit injury-prone. He’s not the sturdiest QB in the NFL, either.
The Commanders do largely have an overall lack of high-end players, but if Daniels can channel that rookie season magic this year, Washington could shock us. However, when the rubber meets the road, the overall lack of talent is going to prevent this team from winning anything of note.
And unless Daniels plays out of his mind this year, the Commanders will struggle.
