6. Lamar Jackson, Baltimore Ravens
Last week: 4th
After a rather dominating performance in the first week of the season, Lamar Jackson appeared to be cruising to another huge game against the New Orleans Saints in Week 2.
And then the wheels started to fall off.
The Saints’ defense absolutely stifled the Ravens’ offense in the second half in a stunning game on Sunday. Jackson and the Ravens’ offense had a 14-play field goal drive in the 3rd quarter, followed by two punts and a game-sealing interception from Jackson.
We’re used to seeing Jackson as a dynamic threat as both a runner and passer, but the Saints were able to bottle him up and prevent him from doing much damage as a runner. Especially with the way Sunday’s game ended, this was a tough “stock down” week for Jackson.
5. Joe Burrow, Cincinnati Bengals
Last week: 5th
Going into Houston to face off against one of the league’s best defenses is not an easy day at the office for any quarterback. Two of the league’s premier stars at the quarterback position have done a good job of going in there to start this season and making that defense look “human”.
Joe Burrow was the latest.
Burrow threw a pair of touchdowns to Ja’Marr Chase in a really impressive win for the Bengals as they now start their season 2-0. It takes some big-time plays to beat a team like Houston on the road, and the connection between Burrow and Ja’Marr Chase for the first touchdown of the game will likely go down as one of the best plays of the season.
It looks like Burrow might be playing with a top-tier defense of his own. If he stays healthy, this Bengals team could be dangerous.
