The reigning NFL MVP did not look like the reigning NFL MVP in Week 1 against the 49ers. The Rams were absolutely blown out by their division rivals in Week 1, and everyone has spent the past week-plus assuming they are going to take it out on the Giants.
We’ll see what ends up happening, but Stafford has earned the benefit of the doubt at this point in his career. He might have had a bad game against the 49ers, but you can write that one off as just an outlier until he starts stringing bad games together.
Stafford is one of those, doubt at your own peril, types of players.
To be fair, he did have an atrocious game against the 49ers. He only threw for 155 yards, an interception, and just generally didn’t look like himself.
3. Brock Purdy, San Francisco 49ers

You can say, “It was just the Dolphins,” all you want, but Brock Purdy’s systematic dismantling of an NFL defense on Sunday was a sight to behold.
And frankly, he did it against the Rams in Australia as well.
There’s a reason why Purdy was ranked 2nd on last week’s QB rankings, and he would be clinging to that spot if it weren’t for the guy taking his place.
Against the Miami Dolphins on Sunday, he completed 20-of-22 pass attempts for 287 yards, 2 TDs, and 0 interceptions. He added a rushing touchdown, and led the 49ers with 30 rushing yards. He led the 49ers to 5 straight touchdown drives to open this game before they seemingly took their foot off the gas in the 4th quarter.
Purdy is such an underrated dual-threat at the position, and is playing like an MVP candidate early this season. There are few quarterback/play-caller connections in the NFL as elite as Brock Purdy and Kyle Shanahan when they’re in sync.
