26. Jacoby Brissett, Arizona Cardinals
Last week: 20th
The Mike Maconald defense strikes once again.
After completely shutting down Drake Maye in Week 1, picking him off three times in the 4th quarter alone, the Seattle defense absolutely dominated Jacoby Brissett and the Arizona Cardinals.
Brissett actually had one of the most impressive performances of Week 1 at the quarterback position against the Los Angeles Chargers. Coming into Week 2 against Seattle, I actually was inspired enough by the game Brissett played that I had the Cardinals winning in my weekly picks.
There’s some egg on the face for you early in the season.
Brissett threw for 95 yards and the Arizona offense had just four passing first downs all game. It was atrocious.
Although you can’t just throw out his Week 1 performance, you have to wonder if the version of Brissett and the Cardinals that we saw in Week 2 was more along the lines of what we’re going to see for the majority of this season.
25. Cam Ward, Tennessee Titans
Last week: 28th
Cam Ward is still very obviously a work in progress, but the key word there is progress. The Titans need him to continue to show progress each week, and we saw some steps forward in Week 2 against the Eagles.
I didn’t think the Titans (or Ward) stood a chance against the Philadelphia Eagles and Vic Fangio’s defense, but to my surprise, Ward had his team in position for a win in the 4th quarter. The defense collapsed against Jalen Hurts and the Eagles’ offense late.
Ward had a pair of rushing touchdowns, looked much better as a passer (especially attacking downfield), and did his job in this game.
A lot of people are going to flame Ward for the way the ball came out of his hand on what would have simply been a Hail Mary attempt in the closing seconds against the Eagles, but you can’t fault him for this particular game. He showed some really nice things.
