20. Jayden Daniels, Washington Commanders
Last week: 19th
Sadly, Jayden Daniels went down with yet another injury on Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys.
It was a brutal injury for Daniels, and a tough one to stomach if you happened to be watching the game live. Definitely do not look up the replay if you have a weak stomach.
Daniels was going to the ground and suffered a dislocated left elbow injury. The initial reports indicate that he could miss a month, but we’ll see what happens. Prior to the injury, Daniels was leading the Commanders in rushing with 69 yards on 7 carries, and was 11-of-17 passing for 96 yards and a touchdown.
It was still 17-10 in favor of the Cowboys when Daniels went down with injury, so who knows how the rest of the game would have played out if he had stayed on the field?
The unfortunate reality the Commanders are now facing is that Daniels is a bit prone to injuries. Nobody wants to see that be the reason his career falters, but it’s become rather concerning.
19. Kirk Cousins, Las Vegas Raiders
Last week: 26th
How about the way Kirk Cousins is operating Klint Kubiak’s offense through the first couple of games this season?
Even if you’re a skeptic who is waiting for the clock to strike midnight on this Cinderella story, you have to admit: It’s been impressive so far.
Fernando Mendoza is sitting comfortably on the bench while the Raiders are quietly 2-0 and looking like a legitimate breakthrough team. And Kirk Cousins has a lot to do with that, obviously.
In Week 1, Cousins had 3 TD passes and wasn’t sacked a single time. In Week 2, he threw another 3 TD passes and was only sacked twice. Keep in mind – Cousins and the Raiders are doing this through the first two games without Brock Bowers.
Imagine what Kubiak and Cousins will have drawn up offensively when Bowers returns to the lineup…
Dating back to late last season with the Falcons, Cousins has been playing some really solid and underrated football. It might be time to start paying attention to what he and the Raiders are doing if you haven’t already been doing so.
