14. Sam Darnold, Seattle Seahawks
The Seattle Seahawks got Sam Darnold back in Week 3, and all Darnold did was throw for 379 yards and four touchdowns, so the Seahawks surely won by 20 points, right?
Right??
Well, no. Darnold tossed two interceptions, and the Seahawks lost their first game in about 18 years. OK, that’s an exaggeration, but Washington played with a ton of heart today and did not let the nearly 400 passing yards get to them.
The thing with Darnold is that he’s been a good QB for a while now, but I am not sure he’s ever truly been great. He actually had 20 turnovers last year but did play well enough for Seattle to win the Super Bowl.
He’s a QB I believe is more along for the ride than anything else, and I don’t think that’s wild to suggest. He’s far from being among the best but is also far from being among the worst.
If Seattle can’t play good defense, they won’t win many games. Darnold did still play well-ish in Week 3, as the offense did about as much as you could have realistically expected.
13. Tyler Shough, New Orleans Saints
You should still be high on Tyler Shough and the New Orleans Saints. They scored 27 points at home, and Shough tossed four touchdowns and 255 yards. That should be plenty for most teams in the NFL to hold the fort down at home.
The Saints played a pretty ugly fourth quarter and just appeared as if the moment was too big for them. Now 1-2, the Saints are still in a good spot in the NFC South and do feel like the best team in the division right now.
They have enough weapons to finish with 9 or 10 wins, and Shough is probably going to get better as the season goes on. Through three games, Shough has not finished with fewer than 252 passing yards in an outing, and he now has eight touchdown passes against two interceptions.
He’s been over a 100 passer rating in each of the last two games. He is a legitimate QB and is going to be seen as a franchise QB by the time this season is over. Keep your Saints stock, folks.
