6. Josh Allen, Buffalo Bills
Wow, the Buffalo Bills are human after all! The Bills do this funny thing where they look unbeatable for a certain stretch of a season before falling back down to earn the following week. Allen and the Bills played an ugly game in Week 3, and they’re lucky that the Chargers played an uglier game.
Allen completed just 16 passes for 204 yards and added two interceptions to his poor passing performance. Seeing as this came against a bad Chargers defense is even more troubling, honestly.
He did add two rushing touchdowns, because of course he did, but he got sacked four times and had a horrific 54 passer rating, so he predictably takes a hit in our QB power rankings. Allen is still likely going to remain an MVP candidate this year, as the Bills are undefeated through three weeks, but what we saw in Week 3 in terms of how dysfunctional the offense looked is something we’ll see from this unit a few more times this year.
Allen still has that erratic play gene in him - it’s never left since entering the NFL.
5. Patrick Mahomes, Kansas City Chiefs
The Kansas City Chiefs are 3-0. Patrick Mahomes went 20/24 for 246 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception in Week 3, defeating the Dolphins by two touchdowns. It got a bit dicey there for a second, but the Chiefs were going to win this game from the start and did.
Mahomes has been very good this year, but the Chiefs do have some legitimate personnel concerns, as Mahomes isn’t going to be able to consistently push this ball down the field until the Chiefs get some better players on that side of the ball, but that might not come until 2027 unless the front office can swing something at the trade deadline.
Now this season, Mahomes has seven touchdown passes and one interception, and he’s had 100+ passer rating games across the last two weeks after a shaky start to the season in Week 1. It seems like any chatter of this knee injury impacting him has died down, as he doesn’t seem to be at all impacted by the season-ending injury he suffered in 2025.
The roster isn’t quite there yet in terms of being able to make a deep playoff run, but it’s also not a wise idea to count out Mahomes and the Chiefs.
