26. Drake Maye, New England Patriots
Drake Maye is broken. Something is wrong with this player, and it’s getting a bit sad to witness at this point. Maye had another multi-turnover game in 2026, as the New England Patriots lost in blowout fashion to Jacksonville in Week 3.
Maye threw just eight interceptions all of last year and has six through three games this year. He’s simply been a bad, perhaps horrible player this year. We obviously aren’t factoring 2025 production into these rankings, as it’s an entirely new season.
Maye and the Patriots just did not adjust on offense based on the rest of the league having an entire year of tape on them after 2025. The team is far from threatening and would struggle to win five games in 2026 unless Maye rapidly improves. I am not sure it’s wild to suggest that the third-year QB needs a couple of weeks off. Whatever the ‘yips’ would be for NFL quarterbacks, Maye has them, and it’s really not that fun to watch.
He continues to tumble down our QB power rankings as Week 3 comes to an end, and I am not sure the freefall ends anytime soon.
25. Baker Mayfield, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are now 0-3 on the season, and it seems like things are really beginning to spin out of control. Not only is Tampa simply a bad team right now, but Baker Mayfield left this game late with what turned out to be a dislocated right thumb.
Mayfield is right-handed, so this is obviously bad news. Head coach Todd Bowles confirmed the injury and also said that he’ll miss some time as well.
This is all really a shame, as the Bucs had something going in the 2023 and 2024 seasons with Mayfield. After a regression year in 2025, things seem to be continuing here in 2026. I’d not be shocked if we saw some major changes coming in the near future, and if Mayfield needs to miss some time, any chance Tampa has to rebound this year just disappeared.
Mayfield drops in our QB rankings and will probably not appear in these rankings for a little bit with how long he could be out with his thumb injury.
