14. Tyler Shough, New Orleans Saints
Last week: 12th
***Tyler Shough plays on MNF against the Atlanta Falcons. His ranking will be updated accordingly after the game
The NFL world is going to get a chance to see a couple of young quarterbacks in the NFC South going head-to-head on Monday Night Football, and Tyler Shough is on the cusp of making himself into a household name.
Shough has been one of the most productive passers in the NFL so far this season, and over his first two seasons in the NFL, he’s proven the ability to come up in the clutch.
Heading into the Saints’ Monday night matchup against the Falcons, Shough is averaging over 300 passing yards per game with 8 passing touchdowns and a rushing touchdown, but he’s also been a bit reckless with the football.
One of the things we’ll be watching against the Saints is Shough’s ball security, because he has 3 interceptions and 5 fumbles already this season.
13. Sam Darnold, Seattle Seahawks
Last week: 13th
In an absolutely amazing feat, it only took the first 22 seconds of the game between the Seahawks and Chargers on Sunday for both Justin Herbert and Sam Darnold to throw interceptions.
Darnold and the Seattle offense got things figured out as the game went along, but they also benefitted greatly from a number of really ugly mistakes from the Los Angeles Chargers.
Out of all the games of Sam Darnold’s NFL career so far, this was certainly one of them.
He completed just 13 passes on the day, but managed to finish with a pair of touchdowns as the Seahawks escaped with a win that ended up being a lot closer than it needed to be. It doesn’t feel like this offense is firing on all cylinders, by any stretch, and Darnold is still working his way back from an injury suffered in Week 1 against the Patriots.
Last year, this offense was able to overcome quite a few mistakes with the defense forcing a ton of turnovers, and that appears to be the case once again this year. But Darnold himself hasn’t exactly played awesome football when we’ve seen him out there so far.
