2. Trevor Lawrence, Jacksonville Jaguars

Last week: 4th

In what could have been the shootout of the week, the battle between Trevor Lawrence and Joe Burrow in Cincinnati actually ended up being a battle of which quarterback could make fewer mistakes.

And in Week 4, that quarterback was Trevor Lawrence.

Lawrence took four sacks against the Bengals, but he didn’t throw any picks, he didn’t have any fumbles, and he cashed in with a touchdown throw to Brian Thomas Jr. down in the red zone.

Not every win is going to be pretty, and they don’t need to be. But Lawrence has been a difference-maker at the quarterback position all season. He is up to 8 touchdown passes in the first four games of the season, and might be making a legitimate case for league MVP when it’s all said and done.

Again, not every single game is going to be spectacular, but to go on the road against a QB like Joe Burrow and win? That’s big for this Jaguars team.

1. Brock Purdy, San Francisco 49ers

Last week: 1st

Brock Purdy continues to play some of the best football of his NFL career after being named NFC Offensive Player of the Month for September.

Purdy was tested against the Denver Broncos’ defense unlike any other game this season, but he still found ways to navigate pressure, make plays with his legs, find receivers downfield, and come through in the clutch to beat the Broncos.

He finished the game 19-of-30 passing with a pair of touchdowns, and an absolute dagger on a perfectly designed screen to George Kittle with the Broncos starting to come back late in the 4th quarter.

Right now, there’s really nothing Purdy is struggling with. He’s handling pressure exceptionally well. He’s finding his receivers at all levels of the field. He hasn’t been sacked a single time in four games so far this season. Even with injuries and players banged up, he’s still spreading the ball all over the field to his weapons.

If he keeps playing like this, it’s going to be tough for anyone to beat the 49ers.
