12. Drake Maye, New England Patriots
Last week: 15th
After throwing just 1 touchdown and 6 interceptions in the first three weeks of the season, Drake Maye has been on an absolute tear.
It’s funny that his “get-right” game was on the road against the Buffalo Bills. Whatever it takes, I guess.
Ever since that game against the Bills, Maye has been himself, for lack of a better way of putting it. He had another three touchdown passes on Sunday against the Jets, a huge 21-yard run, and another deep ball flat-out dropped by AJ Brown, who is officially back.
And that might be really the only concern right now: The chemistry between Maye and Brown. It just hasn’t been there in the limited sample we’ve seen. Brown was targeted 10 times against the Jets, but only managed to catch 3 passes for 27 yards.
11. CJ Stroud, Houston Texans
Last week: 14th
There is something about the Houston Texans and CJ Stroud when their backs are up against the wall…
Stroud went into London to face off against one of the toughest defenses in the league so far this season, and he posted one of his best games yet this year. He threw for 312 yards, three touchdowns, and led his team down the field for a game-winning field goal to disappoint (and upset) the Jaguars.
The Texans got an important and dominating win last week against the Titans. They kept the momentum going this weekend after swinging the big trade for Marvin Harrison Jr., who quickly looked a bit more comfortable with his old pal throwing him passes.
Stroud has thrown for 300+ yards in three of the Texans’ first six games this season. He has thrown for 260+ in all but one of them. He’s slinging the rock and might have Houston believing they can become the 2nd team in league history to start 0-4 and make the playoffs after a nice win against a division rival.
