3. Brock Purdy, San Francisco 49ers
I am not sure we can hammer Brock Purdy too much in our rankings given how good he has been thus far for the San Francisco 49ers. Purdy went 27/40 for 288 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions.
We should be talking about how impressive it was that the Atlanta defense did what they did against the 49ers. They’re still 6-1 on the season and still among the best teams in football, but we really can’t rank Purdy No. 1 anymore.
He’s still someone who would get MVP votes if the season ended today, but he takes a small hit in our latest QB power rankings, and for good reason. This type of outing also proves that even the QBs who are playing the best look human from time to time - it’s the nature of the game they play.
The 49ers are still equipped enough to go on a deep playoff run, and Purdy is going to have much more ‘good’ QB play on his 2026 resume than not.
2. Joe Burrow, Cincinnati Bengals
It was a tale of two halves for the Cincinnati Bengals, who ended up blowing out Baltimore by 22 points. Joe Burrow finished 22/30 passing for 292 yards and four touchdowns in what turned out to be a ‘vintage’ Burrow game.
When he’s firing on all cylinders, he’s borderline Hall of Fame-caliber. Burrow is just flat-out excellent and has the Bengals now sitting at 4-2 on the season, and while the defense played a backup QB, holding the Ravens to 13 points is still impressive.
Burrow and the Bengals are a very good team and do appear to be the best team in the AFC North right now, despite Cleveland and Pittsburgh being ahead of them in the standings. We’ll see how the rest of the season shakes out, but Burrow playing at this level could have the Bengals right in the thick of a deep AFC playoff race a few months from now. He rises in our QB power rankings.
1. Jared Goff, Detroit Lions
I mean, it’s only fair that Jared Goff tops our power rankings, right? He’s still not thrown an interception, and the Detroit Lions were able to win in Week 7 and get to 4-2 on the season after their bye. Goff went 22/32 for 303 yards and two touchdowns. Now, in the season, Goff has 14 touchdown passes, zero interceptions, and a 112.5 passer rating, and four games with a 100+ passer rating. His ‘worst’ games, passer rating-wise, this year are a 96.7 rating and a 92.8 rating. He still had three total touchdown passes in those games.
Goff should also be viewed as a top MVP candidate. I get that Goff does not necessarily play a flashy game and is not going to make anything happen of note with his legs, but the way Goff has played this position is the precise way that is most sustainable as he ages further into his 30s.
He’s simply an outstanding, elite QB this year and is No. 1 in our QB power rankings.
