28. Justin Herbert, Los Angeles Chargers

The entire NFL world has talked about how Justin Herbert has been this year, and short of what would likely be a historic turnaround, Herbert and the Los Angeles Chargers are going to continue stewing in this lost season. Herbert has thrown more interceptions than touchdowns this year and simply looks broken.

He’s been thoroughly bad this year, but the offensive line injuries and incompatibility with Mike McDaniel have also contributed to his drop-off in play. If you sift enough through social media, you’ll see people wondering if the Chargers need to consider trading Herbert in the offseason, but I’m not sure I’d go that far.

Herbert is definitely someone who hasn’t necessarily done much outside of good stats in the regular season, but he’s a franchise QB and is in a horribly tough situation this year. If the Chargers simply surrounded Hebert with a competent offensive line, especially along the interior, we aren’t having these conversations.

27. Daniel Jones, Indianapolis Colts

I guess only losing by six points in the game after firing your General Manager is a moral victory? Someone? Anyone?

The Indianapolis Colts just don’t have any juice. Yes, they kept it close against Minnesota, but Daniel Jones is honestly a perfect example of the Colts franchise - consistently mediocre. While that may seem harsh, it’s the truth.

Jones completed 13 of 22 passes for 108 yards an an interception, but he did get 154 rushing yards, so you would have thought the passing yards would have been a bit easier to come by…?

Jones will probably continue being the Colts starting QB, but it’s not going to lead to anything, and with the team now sitting at 2-5 on the season, you have to begin wondering if this team is going to consider being active at the NFL Trade Deadline here in a few weeks.

26. Jacoby Brissett, Arizona Cardinals

When do the Arizona Cardinals make a QB change? The team keeps losing, and Jacoby Brissett continues to be one of the constants. He’s just not someone who needs to be starting games like this each week.

The Cardinals are a bad football team, and Brissett is a bad starting QB - ge can be a very quality backup in this league, but the Cardinals just aren’t willing to go in that direction quite yet.

Giving rookie Carson Beck some starts really would not hurt, as this is a lost season, and Brissett isn’t leading this franchise anywhere but backwards.

This all may sound a bit over the top, but that’s the truth of their situation. The Cardinals got blown out by Denver in Week 7, and outside of some garbage time statistics, Brissett just does not offer much of anything at this stage of his career.

25. JJ McCarthy, New York Giants

JJ McCarthy played well in Week 7…?

JJ McCarthy played well in Week 7! The third-year QB is now on the New York Giants and got the start in place of Jameis Winston, who may not see another start for the Giants anytime soon. McCarthy completed 20 of 28 passes for a whopping 252 yards in a Giants upset win over Houston.

McCarthy was flat-out fearless in Week 7 - he was not afraid to take chances down the field and was honestly playing like a QB who has nothing to lose. While that may seem like a backhanded compliment, McCarthy’s career has been mostly forgettable up to this point, and it would have been hard for him to have done any further damage on the Giants.

McCarthy went out there in Week 7 and just flat-out balled. It was only one start, so we aren’t going to make any sort of over-the-top statements, but this had to have felt good for the former Viking.
