4. Caleb Williams, Chicago Bears
Caleb Williams hasn’t played as many games as the rest of the guys at the top of this list, but the larger his sample grows, the less you can really say to justify him being lower. What we saw from Williams against the Seattle Seahawks on Monday night was absolutely outstanding.
We all know Williams is talented – he was the #1 pick in the NFL Draft. We also know he has one of the best coaches in the NFL in Ben Johnson. That much is proven at this point. It’s the marriage of Williams’s talent with Johnson’s coaching that has him ranked 4th this week.
Williams is operating the offense so well, he’s seeing defenses so well, and he’s throwing the ball accurately. He’s coming up big for the Bears and understands better than most quarterbacks when he needs to be a point guard and when he needs to be a playmaker.
3. Brock Purdy, San Francisco 49ers
Brock Purdy was on a bye in Week 8***
The 49ers had a bit of a debacle before their bye week with a bunch of turnovers in their first loss of the season at the hands of the Atlanta Falcons. Two of those turnovers were interceptions by Brock Purdy, which doubled his season total in 2026.
Purdy, even with a bit of a dud against Atlanta, has still been arguably the best quarterback in the league this season. He has the 2nd-highest EPA of any QB behind only Josh Allen, and is usually locked in when it comes to accuracy, timing, and poise in the pocket.
There aren’t many things Purdy doesn’t do well, but as we saw against the Falcons, he’s also human when he’s facing significant pressure. Not many teams have been able to affect him like that this season. Let’s see how he bounces back in Week 9.
2. Josh Allen, Buffalo Bills
The Buffalo Bills have the NFL’s greatest cheat code right now. Nobody in the NFL has a higher EPA at the QB position than Josh Allen, and that’s largely due to his ability to both run and pass. The guy ahead of him on the list this week doesn’t do much of the former.
Allen is just a dynamic weapon in every sense at the quarterback position. There is simply nobody like him in the NFL right now.
Allen has 11 passing touchdowns so far this season along with 9 rushing touchdowns. His career-best in rushing TDs is 15, so he might threaten that record this season.
There isn’t much hyperbole you can add to what’s already been said about Josh Allen. It requires your team’s best effort – and mistakes from Allen himself – to beat him.
1. Jared Goff, Detroit Lions
There probably isn’t a better pure passer in the NFL right now than Jared Goff. And with a 15-1 touchdown to interception ratio this season, he’s also one of the best decision makers at the position.
The combination of Goff’s decision making, accuracy, and ability to navigate pressure right now has him as the front-runner (in my mind) for the league MVP award.
The biggest test of his season so far just happened in Week 8, going up against the undefeated Minnesota Vikings, who boast the best defense in the NFL. It was still tough sledding for Goff, but he hung in there tough despite taking four sacks. He was out multiple times throwing blocks for Jahmyr Gibbs, showing just how determined he is this season to win.
The guy is a stud.
