20. Tyler Shough, New Orleans Saints
Tyler Shough was on a bye in Week 8***
We have seen both ends of the spectrum from Tyler Shough this season. The maddening inconsistency of a young quarterback coupled with the brilliance and fullness of his physical gifts on display.
Shough feels very much like a boom or bust player at the position right now, and he needs to find some consistency with the Saints coming out of their bye week.
When I put together these rankings, they are done mostly by the “eye test” throughout the course of the season. Numbers play into it, but Shough ended up in a pretty spot-on slot this week since he also ranks 19th in the league in total EPA at the position this season.
He’s a dual-threat capable of absolutely loading up the stat sheet…or not.
19. Geno Smith, New York Jets
I would say I was skeptical that Geno Smith was going to be able to be a capable bridge quarterback for the New York Jets, but I think I’ve been effectively proven wrong about that so far.
The guy who was incredibly turnover-prone during his time with the Raiders has looked more like the Seattle version of Geno Smith in 2026. Of course, I say that, and Smith just had a game-sealing interception against his former team on Sunday.
If nothing else, Smith is giving the Jets a really good look this season at their young skill players. Almost every single one of them has had an absolutely huge game when featured. And that might be the most important thing he’s done so far this season.
Winning would be a huge bonus.
18. Bryce Young, Carolina Panthers
After mostly lighting up the first five teams on the Panthers’ schedule, Bryce Young has come crashing back down to earth in unimpressive fashion lately.
Young was up there as one of the most prolific passers in the league through the first five weeks of the season, but he’s had a completion rate of 56.1 percent or under in four of the last five games. He has 3 interceptions and a fumble over the past two games, and has been sacked 11 times total in those two games.
He might be dealing with a knee injury right now, which could explain some of his struggles. He was one of the best QBs under pressure in the first quarter of the season, and now the pressure is causing him to crumble.
