If NFL teams interested in running back Jonathan Taylor at the trade deadline end up missing out, it could be that New York Jets running back Breece Hall is the perfect fallback option.
The Colts reportedly opened up the bidding for teams interested in trading for Jonathan Taylor after it was initially reported that they had no interest in trading him at all. After moving on from both Quenton Nelson and DeForest Buckner, the Colts have already started loading up on draft picks for next year.
Teams that have been linked to Taylor -- so far -- include the Vikings, Giants, Broncos, Packers, and Bengals. And there could very well be others. But if all of those teams are interested in acquiring Taylor, and only one gets him, the New York Jets might be their next phone call.
After the last four weeks, is it possible the Jets could move on from Breece Hall?
Jets could get calls about Breece Hall as the NFL trade deadline looms
Jets general manager Darren Mougey was extremely active at the trade deadline last year. He not only traded away players like Quinnen Williams and Sauce Gardner, but he also acquired the likes of Mazi Smith (ouch), John Metchie, and AD Mitchell.
Mougey has shown a willingness to wheel and deal at the deadline, but the Jets just gave Breece Hall a new contract in 2026. He signed a 3-year deal worth $43.5 million with $29 million in guaranteed cash.
Because of the way the Jets put action behind their words when they said the felt Hall was a core piece of their offense, it's tough to see them moving on from him, but the last four weeks might have changed their thinking.
Braelon Allen has been sensational.
Over the last four games, Allen has carried the ball 72 times for 357 yards (4.96 yards per carry) with over 100 yards from scrimmage in each of the past three games.
It's a small sample size for Allen, but an impressive one. And he's perhaps shown the Jets enough that they could take advantage of a strong market at the running back position. Even though they gave Hall a bunch of guaranteed money, the nature of his short-term contract and a lot of guaranteed money in the first two years makes it easier to trade away.
Plus, if someone like Jeffery Simmons -- who signed a much bigger deal in 2026 -- can be traded, why not Hall?
The Jets, just like the Colts, would need a big offer to get Hall before the deadline. But supply and demand dictates the market. If teams are willing to give up multiple high picks for Jonathan Taylor, it's possible that the Jets could get an offer they can't refuse for Breece Hall as well.
