The 2026 NFL trade deadline is on November 10, which means teams are going to have to decide soon if they're going to be buyers or sellers.
And anytime you have a legitimate chance of competing for a division title, you have to strike while the iron is hot.
Every current NFC division leader -- the undefeated Vikings, the Giants, the Panthers, and the 49ers -- should be seriously considering ways to upgrade their rosters, even if it's not a blockbuster deal. It just so happens that there could be blockbuster deals yet to be made.
Let's take a look at some recommendations for each team as the deadline approaches if they want to make sure they don't lose their grip on the division lead as the season goes along.
Trade deadline ideas for every current NFC division leader entering Week 8
Minnesota Vikings: Jonathan Taylor, RB, Colts
It's no secret that the Minnesota Vikings need help on the offensive side of the ball. They have one of the best defenses in the NFL, and it would be a shame to see that group "wasted" with a bad offense letting them down as the season goes along.
Even if Kyler Murray is still acclimating to the Kevin O'Connell offense, the Vikings have issues in their running game right now. Jordan Mason has been hurt, and Aaron Jones has been ineffective. He currently ranks 119th out of 120 running backs in total EPA this season (-22.75).
A player like Jonathan Taylor could completely flip the script for the Vikings' offense. He changes the way teams defend you.
It's also worth noting that the Vikings have picked up quite a few former Colts players in recent years (Cam Bynum, Ryan Kelly, Carson Wentz, Isaiah Rodgers, Will Fries).
San Francisco 49ers: Jerry Jeudy, WR, Browns
I know the bigger "fish" to land would be Brian Thomas Jr. from the Jaguars, but the smarter pickup for a team like San Francisco might actually be Jerry Jeudy.
That is, assuming the Browns (who are also leading their division entering Week 8) are actually willing to trade him away. The Browns have young receivers stepping up and making a ton of plays, and Jeudy has taken a backseat to them this season.
He's made some more plays lately, proving his value, but if the right offer came along, the Browns might take it and just let those young receivers thrive.
The 49ers could use another player like Jeudy, who knows how to get open quickly and can make huge plays at all levels of the field. His one issue has always been dropped passes, so that's something you just have to live with.
New York Giants: JK Dobbins, RB, Broncos
The New York Giants need some depth at the running back position right now, and head coach John Harbaugh has history with JK Dobbins from their time together with the Ravens.
Dobbins has been struggling this season for the Broncos since making his way back from injury. Even with some extensive work in Weeks 5 and 6, Dobbins was ineffective to the point that he lost his primary role to Jonah Coleman in Week 7.
If Dobbins is playing third-fiddle in Denver, it would be an expensive back to be keeping on the sidelines for most of the game. The Broncos have also been rumored to be in the market for Jonathan Taylor, so perhaps a change of scenery would put the chip on Dobbins' shoulder he needs to thrive.
Carolina Panthers: Maxx Crosby, DE, Raiders
The idea of the Raiders trading away Maxx Crosby really feels far-fetched, but we're talking about ideal scenarios, remember?
If the Panthers could make something like this happen, it would add a much-needed presence to the defensive front.
Obviously, the additions the Panthers have been making to their defense haven't yielded the fruit they were expecting. They have gotten absolutely worked at times this season on that side of the ball, including giving up over 250 yards on the ground twice in their first six games.
That's not what you want.
It would take a blockbuster deal to get Crosby away from the Raiders, but the Panthers might be desperate enough.
