DeSean Jackson Injury: Washington Redskins WR ‘advised’ to sit out

facebooktwitterreddit

Washington Redskins star wide receiver DeSean Jackson is a toss-up for today’s rivalry matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles, and he is trying as hard as he can to play today in order to “show up” the team that released him under mysterious circumstances that have caused some to speculate at the fairness of his release. The Eagles are fine without him with Jeremy Maclin, Riley Cooper, and Jordan Matthews at WR to go with a host of weapons at other positions, while Jackson forms one of the league’s most talented pass-catching groups with the likes of Pierre Garcon, Andre Roberts, Jordan Reed, and rising TE convert Niles Paul.

  • Although the Redskins plan on having Jackson out there today, Pro Football Talk reports that people close to the star wideout have “advised” him to sit out this week against the Eagles. PFT reports that we won’t learn his status until the inactive list is released, so while many people tentatively expect him to play, D-Jax is very much a game-time decision. The Redskins will check out his shoulder before the game, and that will let us know whether or not he receives the green light.

The Redskins would obviously love to have Jackson out there in such an important game, and there’s no doubt that this game holds even more importance to the wide receiver. However, the Redskins need to be extremely careful here, because Jackson doesn’t have the kindest injury history, and they can’t risk an aggravation to one of their best players; those close to him seem to be giving good advice at this point, but they also care about his own interest more than the interests of the team. Still, Jackson’s health should be in the Redskins best interest, too.
