RG3, Jordan Reed Injury Updates

Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III dislocated his ankle early in the team’s Week 2 blowout win over the Jacksonville Jaguars, and he was initially slapped with a 6-8 week timetable. This injury has given Kirk Cousins an excellent opportunity to Wally Pipp RG3 (Redskins head coach Jay Gruden certainly isn’t opposed to letting that happen, and the theory is that he actually wants Cousins to usurp the former No. 2 overall pick), but he hasn’t taken full advantage of it. After putting up big numbers against the Jaguars and Philadelphia Eagles, Cousins laid an egg against the New York Giants last week on Thursday Night Football and has the toughest matchup possible this week on Monday Night Football against the Seattle Seahawks.

More from Washington Commanders

As for RG3, the Washington Post’s Mike Jones reports that Redskins head coach Jay Gruden there is “nothing new” regarding the status of his QB. While he stated that RG3 has made some progress and done some “great work”, he hasn’t made “significant progress” and doesn’t have any updates to his initial timetable. This news was to be expected, though it, of course, benefits Cousins.

Star tight end Jordan Reed was once expected to make his return this week against the Seahawks after suffering a hamstring injury in Week 1, but the injury-prone second-year player no longer looks likely to play. Per Jones, the Redskins have officially listed Reed as questionable on the injury report, but I don’t think anyone should expect him to play. He still has a shot at playing, but he’s no longer even 50-50 after missing individual drills today.
