RG3 Injury Update: Washington Redskins QB trying to return in Week 8

Washington Redskins third-year quarterback Robert Griffin III dislocated his ankle against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 2, but, thankfully, he didn’t suffer any damage outside of that. His initial timetable was set at 6-8 games despite some potential for fluctuation, but we haven’t received any updates regarding his status. He made a random appearance at practice yesterday that caused some stir, but, as Redskins head coach Jay Gruden stated, there’s no reason to read into that. While RG3 is making normal, steady progress on his injury, there hasn’t been some huge breakthrough.

The NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports that the Redskins would like to bring RG3 back into the fold before the bye week, so they’d like him to suit up for their Week 8 classic rivalry battle against the Dallas Cowboys and their porous secondary. A return then would be on the low-end of the 6-8 week timeline, and it would be completely fair to criticize the Redskins for planning on bringing back a player, who is quite honestly injury-prone, before the bye week (Week 10) when they are recovering from a serious injury.

For now, the Redskins focus is on Week 5 and a tough battle against the Seattle Seahawks tomorrow night. Kirk Cousins is auditioning for the chance to usurp RG3, but, after racking up big numbers in Week 2 and Week 3, he is coming off of a lousy performance and has the most difficult matchup possible tomorrow night.
