New England Patriots have good chance to repeat in 2015

The New England Patriots capped off a great 2014 season with a thrilling Super Bowl victory against the Seattle Seahawks. The Patriots were one goal line stand away from losing another Super Bowl in heart-breaking fashion. A memorable Malcolm Butler interception on a poor play call by the Seahawks allowed the Patriots to call themselves the best team in the league with another Super Bowl victory.

Now with the celebrating coming to an end, focus has been turned to the offseason with free agency and the NFL Draft. Unlike most teams the Patriots are really well set up for another run at the Super Bowl in 2015, as they look to be the best team in the AFC once again next season.

The obvious reasons for the Patriots having success in 2015 is that Tom Brady will be their quarterback, Bill Belichick will be their head coach, and Rob Gronkowski will be their tight end. Those are three things that most other teams don’t have the luxury of, and will be a big reason for the Patriots’ future success.

The Patriots are the last team to repeat as Super Bowl Champions, as they helped kept that honor themselves by beating the Seahawks, who were attempting to win back-to-back. Many Super Bowl winners miss the playoffs the next season, as players who win Super Bowls generally want more money. That causes teams to move on from players who helped them succeed due to the salary cap. Super Bowl winners also can see talented coordinators move on to take head coaching jobs, as their team’s success gains them attention.

This offseason the Patriots’ team won’t be decimated when it comes to free agency, as their biggest free agents will be Shane Vereen, Devin McCourty, Dan Connolly, and Stephen Gostkowski.

Figuring out the Darrelle Revis contract situation will be the biggest and most important challenge for the Patriots. The Patriots signed Revis to a two-year deal last offseason with the second year being worth $20 million. It is extremely unlikely that the Patriots will bring Revis back at that number next season, but a new deal could happen.

“People understand that that’s a placeholder, and we’ll get to work on trying to make (an extension) happen,” Kraft said. “He’s been everything and more since he’s been here. Patriots fans knew what he was like on the field, but didn’t know what he was like off it. Having worn green all those years and the blind emotion we all have toward the Jets, you have one perception of the man. And the man is very different than that. He’s a great guy and he works hard. There is no over-ego to him and he’s a great teammate. He’s been a real pleasure to have him as part of the organization.”

Revis was the catalyst of a much-improved Patriots’ defense that helped them get over the hump and win a Super Bowl in 2014. If the Patriots would like to repeat; signing Revis is almost a must.

If the Patriots do lose some players in free agency, they do have draft picks to help replace some pieces, as they hold draft picks in the first three rounds.

The AFC doesn’t seem to have a great team that will be better on paper than the Patriots, especially if they have Revis. 2015 can once again be the year of the Patriots in the NFL, as there is a good possibility of a repeat.
