Can the Denver Broncos have some ‘Mile High Magic’ on Sunday vs. the Pittsburgh Steelers like they had with Tim Tebow in 2011?

On Sunday January 17, 2016, the Denver Broncos will take on the Pittsburgh Steelers in a pivotal AFC matchup to determine who will be one step closer to their ultimate goal: the Lombardi trophy and a ring with enough diamonds on it to look as if they were the Powerball winners last night.

The game has intriguing storylines as two-time winning Super Bowl quarterback ‘Big’ Ben Roethlisberger has an injured shoulder and Bob Holtzman of ESPN reported that Roethlisberger will likely play on Sunday. However, another story line to follow that Holtzman reported in that same report was that All-Pro wide receiver, Antonio Brown, is ‘not looking good’ to play vs. Broncos after suffering a concussion on the illegal hit from Bengals linebacker Vontaze Burfict.

The Broncos will have future Hall of Fame quarterback Peyton Manning calling the shots for them on Sunday and will look to improve on their 4-3 playoff record against the Steelers.

If your memory is good then you know that the last time these two teams went to battle in the playoffs it ended with some fireworks.

On January 8, 2012, in Denver, Colorado, Broncos’ starting quarterback Tim Tebow sent shockwaves throughout the entire NFL when he threw a game-winning touchdown pass in overtime of the 2011 AFC Wildcard Game against the Steelers.

Whatever your thoughts are on Tebow, they should not matter when reliving this memory because it was one of the biggest moments in NFL playoff history.

Tebow and the Broncos came into the playoffs off of three straight losses and had to take on the Steelers who brought the number one ranked defense into Denver. Many people wrote the Broncos off, but Tebow played arguably the best game of his career.

Tebow would complete 10 of his 21 passes for 316 yards and two touchdowns. He averaged 31.6 yards per completion in the game and it led many to use the bible verse ‘John 3:16’ (For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.) to symbolize the performance.

He threw for the two touchdowns, but his second touchdown pass of the day was the one that will have Tebow remembered forever in the NFL.

The game was tied 23-23 after four quarters and went into overtime (it was the first year of the new and current overtime rules). The Broncos would win the toss and obviously elect to receive. There would be no return and the Broncos started the drive at their 20-yard line.

Then ‘it’ happened and ‘it’ being Tebow’s ‘Mile High Magical Moment.’

On the very first play of overtime Tebow would throw a strike to Demaryius Thomas across the middle of the field and Thomas would do the rest. He stiff armed a defender and would win a foot race to the end zone to give the Broncos a 29-26 victory and move them on into the next round of the playoffs.

It was a play that fans will remember forever and a play that the Steelers fans will never forget. We will see if Sunday has anymore fireworks like there was the last time these two teams tried to advance in the NFL playoffs.

Here was that play:
