That Kansas City Chiefs sure appeared to be in for a long season, starting off their 2015 slate with a 1-5 record. However, they were able to reel off 10 straight regular season victories to finish 11-5, earning a Wild Card birth into the playoffs. The Chiefs dominated the Houston Texans in the Wild Card round, but ran into the Tom Brady and Bill Belichick buzz saw of the New England Patriots on Saturday, ending their season.

Their 11 straight victories were impressive and gave the Chiefs a legitimate shot at making a run to the Super Bowl, but they came up short against the Patriots. Despite the disappointing end, the Chiefs had a great 2015 season that gives them a great platform to build their future on.

Led by an explosive pass rush, and key play-makers throughout the unit, the Chiefs had the third ranked scoring defense in 2015, allowing only 17.9 points per game. Justin Houston, Dontari Poe, Eric Berry and Marcus Peters are all explosive defensive play-makers who will likely continue to lead the Chiefs to defensive success going forward.

Those four are the stars, but the Chiefs’ defense is loaded with talent and depth throughout the unit. Assuming they do not lose much to the unit this off season, they are loaded for success moving forward.

The Chiefs’ offensive talent is not as impressive as their defense. Wide receiver Jeremy Maclin and tight end Travis Kelce give him two great options, but quarterback Alex Smith is not the most impressive passer in the game. Smith has proved to be a solid starting NFL quarterback, but his upside is limited.

Jamaal Charles will likely return from his knee injury next season, but it is fair to wonder if he starts to slow down a bit. A 29-year-old running back coming off of his second major knee injury is not the most ideal scenario. If Charles does not look like the same back, Charcandrick West and Spencer Ware can step in and help carry the load as both players looked good in Charles’ absence this season.

The Chiefs are an extremely interesting team who has a lot of upside going forward. Their defensive is incredible, and while they do not have the most explosive offense, there is certainly some exciting talent on that side of the ball as well. What will the Chiefs look to do this off season? Only time will tell for sure, but let’s look ahead and predict.
