In 2012, quarterback Robert Griffin III was the second overall pick in the NFL draft and wound up the Offensive Rookie of the Year. Four years later, he’s looking for a second chance with another team.

When Robert Griffin III was finally cut free from the black hole that is the Washington Redskins organization, I was excited to see what was next in store for him. His talent and potential is undeniable and I firmly believed that with a fresh start and stable franchise, he could turn around his sinking career.

Then as I watched The Dan Le Batard Show a “Breaking News” alert scrolled across the bottom of my screen stating that RG3 (courtesy of ESPN’s Adam Schefter) had reached a deal with the Cleveland Browns in the immediate future. Via USA Today Sports, Griffin has inked a two-year, $15 million deal.

I wouldn’t even consider myself an RG3 fan, but I am a fan of talent and greatness. In the right situation he was capable of achieving greatness. Once I saw where he was going, all hope went out the window.

There is literally not a more incompetent organization in the NFL. Everything that can be wrong with a team is wrong with that team, and I’m not even talking about their complete lack of talent on the field.

The Browns can’t draft, free agents don’t want to sign there and they hired a New York Mets’ executive to run their team. No, that’s not a typo (yes, Jonah Hill’s character in “Money Ball).

With that said, I guess that’s an upgrade considering a report two years ago (relayed here by Will Brinson of CBS Sports) that Jimmy Haslam had taken the “advice” of a homeless man in Cleveland, who told the Browns’ owner that he should draft quarterback Johnny Manziel.

Griffin is now cast into a situation with a dismantled offensive line and no one he can rely on to catch passes. The already injury-prone quarterback with broken confidence couldn’t have signed into a worse situation. He was much better off being a backup somewhere, anywhere.

ESPN remind us that since coming back to the NFL in 1999, the Browns have run through 24 starting quarterbacks. Even the guys that were successful elsewhere. They’ve run through four first-round picks, Heisman Trophy winners, Super Bowl champions, National champions and both McCown brothers. This team is an unmitigated disaster.

Anybody that had high hopes for a triumphant turnaround for RG3 can now push those thoughts right out of their heads. He went from a bad to worse situation and there aren’t many situations worse than his situation in Washington. Especially now that the Browns just rid themselves of almost all their decent players, including former Pro Bowlers such as Alex Mack and Tashaun Gipson.

It would be shocking if he excels in Cleveland, a franchise that has enjoyed only two winning seasons and one playoff appearance the past 17 seasons.
