New York Giants: Lots of Options on Day 2 of NFL Draft
By Ryan Disdier
The New York Giants opted to improved their defense in the first round of the 2016 NFL Draft, selecting Ohio State cornerback Eli Apple. Moving forward, there is still a plethora of talent for the Giants to pick from.
After spending their first-round pick on Ohio State cornerback Eli Apple, the New York Giants still need to make some improvements on the team.
As was the case in the first round, the Giants will be looking for players who can come in and contribute right away. New York needs help on offense and defense, despite having star power on both sides of the ball.

The Giants have the ninth pick of the second round, and the eighth pick of the third round, so the team is still in a position to nab some quality players.
If I were to rank the Giants’ needs, I would put them in this order:
- Pass rusher: Even though the team spend a lot of money to improve the defensive line, the Giants are a team that always covets having a bevy of pass-rushers. Jason Pierre-Paul and Olivier Vernon are good, but New York would be wise to add another rusher.
- Offensive lineman: The tricky thing here is how the team views second-year man Bobby Hart. While he can theoretically play right guard and right tackle, the team’s true view on his ability will direct what offensive lineman they draft.
- Wide receiver: It’s a broken record, but Odell Beckham Jr. can’t do it all by himself.
- Linebacker: Devon Kennard can be a stud, when he’s healthy. Other than him it’s a bunch of serviceable mediocrity at linebacker for the Giants.
That’s certainly a hefty laundry list of needs, but the Giants have opportunities to hit home runs with their remaining picks in the draft.
Instead of trying to predict the pick, I’ll instead be examining some prospects from each position of needs, in an effort to do sort of a mini-breakdown on them.
