Jets C Nick Mangold Comes To Defense of Mark Sanchez

New York Jets center Nick Mangold caught wind of the story in the New York Daily News reporting that some veteran players believed quarterback Mark Sanchez was “lazy and content because he knows he’s not going to be benched.” The report by Manish Mehta went as far as to state players wanted the Jets to cut Mark Sanchez loose and bring in Peyton Manning.

Of course, Mangold was not happy and spoke out that the report was untrue. He took to his official Twitter account to say:

The most trouble part of the report was that the players bashing Sanchez did not attach their names to the quotes and they went by “anonymous.”

Mangold has every right to be upset. Head coach Rex Ryan did away with the captain title for players and it has had a negative effect on the team. No one is being head accountable and the players are using this in their benefit. One of the only players who has really stepped up and showed some accountability and leadership — other than Mangold — is rookie quarterback Greg McElroy.

Ryan should name Mangold as a captain immediately and use this as an example. If anyone chooses to speak out about the team or air their dirty laundry, make sure you put your name to it and man up.
