Mychal Rivera TE OAK (0.6% Owned)
Yet another Waiver Wire pickup from the University of Tennessee, Rivera has been one of the Raiders most under the radar receivers. Thus far this season Rivera has caught for 341 yards and 4 touchdowns with an average yards per catch of 10.0. Seeing as Rivera isn’t a flashy TE, it is understandable why the rookie Raider Tight End is only owned in 0.6% of leagues. This season, despite 2 QB changes and competition with Denarius Moore, Rod Streater and Andre Holmes, Rivera has still been able to manage around 4 fantasy points per game this season. But don’t look at Rivera’s numbers overall this season, look at what he has done as of late. Since week 11, Rivera has averaged 6.4 fantasy points per game including 2 back-to-back weeks with over 20 yards and a TD. As well not only has Rivera been great in red-zone situations, but he has also surprisingly been the 3rd-most targeted Raider receiver this season. That combination of TD-potential and guaranteed receptions should mean another solid fantasy performance this Sunday as the Raiders go into San Diego to play the Chargers. This season the Bolts have been less-than-adequate on the passing defense side of the ball. Not only have the Chargers allowed 266.1 passing yards per game this season to opposing QBs, but they have also have allowed 15 passing touchdowns and 24.7 fantasy points per game to opposing receivers this season. This should give Rivera the perfect opportunity to play spoiler and absolutely go off against a divisional opponent that happens to have a chance to get into the playoffs. Look for Rivera to get targets and receptions this Sunday, the exact yardage I am still unsure on, however I know for an almost certain fact that Rivera will catch a touchdown. Granted Matt McGloin starts this Sunday and doesn’t throw 4 interceptions like last week, look for the Raiders to have a relatively decent game through the air.
