Ray Rice Released by Baltimore Ravens, Suspended ‘Indefinitely’ By NFL

The Baltimore Ravens have released running back Ray Rice after a disturbing video of him punching his then-fiancee Janay Palmer  during a domestic violence dispute emerged from TMZ this morning. The domestic violence incident occurred in February.  Shortly afterwards, Rice was arrested and video emerged in which Rice was shown dragging Palmer’s unconscious body on the floor of an Atlantic City casino. Even worse is the fact that the Baltimore Ravens didn’t seem to comprehend just how serious the nature of this incident was and just addressed it as a mistake that happened and could be brushed off after Rice issued an apology.

While the attack was clearly brutal, Rice managed to escape jail time and was handed a very lenient, two-game suspension by the NFL.

After the suspension was issued, the NFL faced serious backlash for its failure to properly address the incident despite claiming that it will not tolerate domestic violence. Recently, the NFL admitted that it got it wrong when they suspended Rice for only two games. Today in an attempt to correct their wrong, the NFL suspended Rice indefinitely for his actions. It seems that this latest released video was what the NFL needed to back up its words. The release of Ray Rice by the Baltimore Ravens and the increased suspension by the NFL is long overdue but I guess it’s better late than never.
