Week 2 NFL Power Rankings
Number 17: Minnesota Vikings – Last Week 17
The Vikings looked very good in a blowout victory against the St. Louis Rams. The only problem is the Rams aren’t a very good team. I need to see more from Minnesota before moving them up and they get a great opportunity playing in Foxborough this week. They can definitely do it, though.
Number 18: Atlanta Falcons – Last Week 20
The “Dirty Birds” were very impressive against the New Orleans Saints this past Sunday. Of course, the defense needs to improve, but as long as Matt Ryan keeps throwing for 400 yards, this team will be in the mix in what is a wide open NFC South.
Number 19: Detroit Lions – Last Week 22
Prior to the start of the preseason I had the Detroit Lions at 28. Clearly, I was wrong and have no problem admitting that. With that being said, they beat up on a bad Giants team. Much like the Vikings, I would like to see how the Lions fare against better competition.
Number 20: New York Jets – Last Week 23
Geno Smith looked very comfortable in a week one win against the Oakland Raiders. He completed 82 percent of his passes for over 200 yards a touchdown. If he can consistently play like this, the Jets could easily find themselves playing meaningful football in January.
Number 21: Tampa Bay Buccaneers – Last Week 16
With new personnel both on and off the field, expectations were higher than usual in Tampa Bay. Dropping your home-opener against the Cam Newtonless Panthers is certainly not a good start to the season.
Number 22: Kansas City Chiefs – Last Week 19
The Kansas City Chiefs were unable to duplicate last year’s hot start as they were dominated by the Tennessee Titans. Alex Smith looked terrible, throwing three interceptions. To add to their troubles. the defense had trouble stopping Jake Locker.
Number 23: Dallas Cowboys – Last Week 21
The Cowboys did not look good against the 49ers this past Sunday. Romo threw three interceptions, Dez Bryant suffered through cramps and the defense conducted business as usual. It could be a very long season for Dallas.
Number 24: Buffalo Bills – Last Week 27
Other than an early third quarter interception, E.J. Manuel played a brilliant game against a good defense. He accounted for two touchdowns (one rushing), leading the Bills to a huge upset victory against the Chicago Bears.
