6. AFC South: Adjusted Score of 5.636

(Baltimore/Indianpolis Colts, Houston Oilers/Tennessee Titans, Jacksonville Jaguars, Houston Texans)

Other than the Colts, the AFC South hasn’t had a ton of relative success. Although, the AFC South is the youngest division in the NFL, so it hasn’t had a ton of time to build history. The majority of this division’s success has come from the Colts franchise (two Super Bowl wins and two losses). The only other team from the division to make a Super Bowl was Tennessee, which lost (1999). Peyton Manning, Johnny Unitas, Earl Campbell, and J.J. Watt are some of the biggest names that have played in this division. The AFC South will continue to be dominated by the Colts for quite some time.

5. AFC East: Adjusted Score of 6.069

(New England Patriots, Miami Dolphins, New York Jets, Buffalo Bills)

The AFC East has been dominated by the Patriots in recent years, but Miami was the first franchise from this division to reach greatness — which it did in the 1970s. The Bills were the best team in the 1990s and the Jets won the first Super Bowl in this division’s history. All four of these teams came from the AFL and joined the NFL in the 1970 merger. The AFC East has won six Super Bowls and lost 11 more. Some of the most marquee names to play in this division are Tom Brady, Joe Namath, Dan Marino, O.J. Simpson, and Jim Kelly. The Patriots may be poised to lose their spot as the division’s top dog in the coming years.
