4. NFC North: Adjusted Score of 6.236

(Green Bay Packers, Chicago Bears, Minnesota Vikings, Detroit Lions)

Despite being the oldest combined division in the history of the NFL, the NFC North comes in ranked as the fourth greatest — in terms of greatness per year. The division boast two of the NFL’s flagship franchises in Green Bay and Chicago, but it’s other two members have yet to win a Super Bowl. This division has won five Super Bowls and lost six. The Lions are the only one of the four to never reach the big game (the Vikings have lost four). The NFC North is one of the most historic divisions, but as far as overall consistent greatness, not the top. A small percentage of the biggest names to play in this division are Walter Payton, Dick Butkus, Mike Ditka, Bart Starr, Brett Favre, Reggie White, Barry Sanders, and Adrian Peterson. The NFC North is currently wide open, three teams have the potential to go deep into the playoffs and the Vikings still boast talent.

3. AFC West: Adjusted Score of 6.593

(Denver Broncos, Oakland/Los Angeles/Oakland Raiders, San Diego Chargers, Kansas City Chiefs)

The third greatest division in NFL history is the AFC West. The Raiders have racked up the most points for this division, as their history is quite extensive despite their recent struggles. But the Broncos and Chiefs have seen a fair deal of success, too. This division has won six Super Bowls and lost nine more. The Chargers are the only of team in the division that hasn’t won a Super Bowl. The entire division is comprised of teams from the AFL that joined the NFL in 1970. A sampling of the biggest names to star in this division are John Elway, Marcus Allen, Derrick Thomas, Junior Seau, and LaDainian Tomlinson. This division is currently dominated by the Broncos and Peyton Manning, but the Chiefs aren’t so bad, either.
