Calvin Johnson, Golden Tate Injury Updates
Detroit Lions superstar wide receiver Calvin Johnson was able to play through the pain last week against the New York Jets, but Jim Caldwell and the Lions severely limited their star player’s role by restricting him to a decoy role. It worked out pretty well, as Johnson was able to relieve pressure off of Golden Tate, who showed off his huge talent by almost single-handedly ripping apart the New York Jets subpar secondary.

Tate suffered a hamstring injury in practice yesterday and was downgraded to being a “limit” participant, but neither he nor Johnson were at risk of missing this week’s game. While Johnson has improved on the health front since being limited in last week’s game, there were still some worries regarding his status. However, ESPN NFL Nation’s Michael Rothstein reports that the Lions have officially listed Megatron as questionable, while Tate has been listed probable.
It’s clear that Tate is a full “go” this week against the Buffalo Bills, and he could have another huge day on the stat sheet. Johnson should also avoid having a limited role on Sunday, as his ankle seems healed up. Both players were able to practice today, but it will, of course, be interesting to see how the target splits between them are. Joique Bell and Theo Riddick have both been ruled out, so the running game will be the Reggie Bush and George Winn show (it also means that the WRs have less RBs vulturing targets in the passing game).
