RG3 Injury: Washington Redskins QB not expected to return in Week 8
It was reported earlier today by the NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport that the Washington Redskins are planning to bring Robert Griffin III back from his injury in time to face the bitter rival Dallas Cowboys, but that doesn’t appear to be the case. Per “people within the organization” close to the Washington Post’s Mike Jones, this report is inaccurate, as the Redskins would like to see if RG3 can practice fully for two weeks. Even then, Jones reports that there’s a very real chance the Redskins could choose to go with Kirk Cousins anyway, which is an option Jay Gruden has always left open.

Honestly, the Week 8 return date never made any sense, because not only is that on the low end of the initial 6-8 week timetable for his dislocated ankle, but the Redskins bye is in Week 10. Why would they bring RG3, who is an injury-prone player and needs to be preserved due to his talent and potential value, back before the bye week without sufficient practice? Plus, it would look like a rush job, given that this timeline should put him at a Week 11 return (after the bye).
RG3 doesn’t have a set timetable at this point, but the 6-8 week one is a rough guideline that should, quite honestly, be used as a conservative estimate for his return date. Cousins has plenty of time to make his stamp on what is currently a quarterback competition, but his main task will to avoid getting stomped by the Seattle Seahawks tomorrow night.
