Detroit Lions also working out Connor Barth
Make it three. The Detroit Lions are busy working out some of the best kickers on the free agent market, as they have to be sick after settling for two subpar options in rookie Nate Freese and Philadelphia Eagles cast-off Alex Henery. Freese looked like the worst kicker in the NFL before the Lions gave him the boot, while Henery showed off absolutely no kicking range or nerves, as he missed all three of his attempts, effectively causing the Lions to lose to the Buffalo Bills yesterday. Henery was axed today, and the Lions already have known workouts lined up with Matt Prater and Jay Feely tomorrow.

Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports a third addition to tomorrow’s list, and it’s another notable name in Connor Barth, who once earned a nice contract from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for his kicking ability. Just 28, Barth’s career has been derailed recently by injury, but he is an incredibly accurate kicker who went a blistering 26-for-28 in the 2011 season.
All three kickers are strong options, though the riskiest one seems to be Barth, as he didn’t attempt a single kick in the 2013 season. Prater, of course, is the strongest option, and he’s probably the one most people are clamoring for.
