Washington Redskins quarterback Kirk Cousins did a surprisingly solid job on Monday Night Football against the elite Seattle Seahawks defense, as he managed to avoid any mistakes and averaged 7.9 yards per attempt thanks to big plays from DeSean Jackson. Most quarterbacks don’t come anywhere near th 283 passing yards Cousins produced, let alone escape without tossing a pick. Of course, the Seahawks defended seven passes, so it wasn’t like it was a perfectly clean day from the Redskins signal-caller.

Cousins’s trial run for the franchise gig continues this week with a battle against Patrick Peterson, Antonio Cromartie, Tyrann Mathieu, and another star-studded NFC West secondary in the Arizona Cardinals. With Calais Campbell out, the Cardinals pass rush could be non-existent, giving Cousins some time to find playmakers like Jackson and Pierre Garcon downfield, as the Cards are a bit burn-prone (Demaryius Thomas, Emmanuel Sanders, and the Denver Broncos “Four Horsemen” really punished Cro and Co. in Week 5).
That said, Cousins knows he’s up against another tough challenge, with Peterson and his elite athleticism looming. According to CSN Washington’s Tarik El-Bashir, Cousins stated that going up against PP will be a “fun challenge” for the passing attack as a whole.
No matter what Richard Sherman says about Garcon, both he and D-Jax have the talented to duke it out with Peterson and come away with some victories. But this game could yield a big performance from someone like Niles Paul, who has a favorable matchup on paper. If Jordan Reed is ready to return, then he’s also primed for a quality performance.
