Jadeveon Clowney, Brian Cushing will not play

Houston Texans No. 1 overall pick Jadeveon Clowney missed several weeks this season after tearing his meniscus in Week 1, and he will miss another game today due to an illness, as the Philadelphia Eagles and quarterback Nick Foles won’t have to worry about him. Clowney has reportedly frustrated the Texans organization, as they have seemingly questioned his toughness and ability to fight through injuries. He wasn’t expected to play today due to the illness, but he did come down to a full-blown game-time decision and was worked out during pre-game warm-ups.

More from Houston Texans

Per a source close to the NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Clowney will not play today against the Eagles, and it will be interesting to see if that affects his early relationship with Bill O’Brien and the Texans, especially after a rather scathing report from Rapoport earlier today.

The Texans won’t have another key linebacker for today’s tough matchup against the Eagles, as a league source tells Pro Football Talk that star inside linebacker Brian Cushing will not be out there today either.

Cushing’s absence is more surprising than Clowney’s, because it looked like he would be able to return this week after missing last week’s game against the Tennessee Titans with a knee injury. He was listed questionable on the injury report and sounded optimistic about his chances, but it looks like Cushing will be held out for another week. Injuries are starting to become an issue for Clowney, but they’ve always been an issue for Cushing. That said, only a fool would question Cushing’s toughness.
